SIGHTINGS
The face of pink floyd
SUCHITRA BEHAL
GENERATIONS grew up on their notes. And "The Wall" became something of an anthem for kids around the world. Even today the band continues to draw rapturous sighs despite having split and the death of its most prolific member Syd Barrett. ROGER WATERS is pretty much used to representing the flip side of Pink Floyd and is often credited with plugging the loopholes that Barrett's illness created. So it's not surprising that when he strums his guitar, a million ears perk up. In Mumbai recently, Waters, who feels he cannot divorce politics from music, said he could never really tell how he got his inspiration to write. " I am afraid I will never really have an answer to that one." He added that today his lyrics were a lot more "political. If these are the things that concern me, then this is damn well what I will write about". Apart from producing the solo numbers, Waters has never been able to quite turn away from his Floyd days. Not that he wants to. " It's amazing how nobody saw the light side of `The Wall'. I guess it's because its darkly ironic." He added that he was "disappointed that the movie was not humorous at all and said that he hoped to rectify this. I am working on a musical that's like a Broadway show and I hope to add a few laughs to it."
