Chilling account
This refers to "Close encounters" (February 18). The chilling accounts of children who narrowly escaped from the clutches of killers provide ample indication of Saksham's persistent efforts. In hindsight, the accent on creating confidence in the children proved to be the crucial factor in their providential escape.

The community has to be aware of the positive efforts of agencies like Saksham as much or even more than the details of the horror. Saksham can happen many times over if there is more awareness that individuals can make a difference. We must stop saying "What can I do?" It is imperative that the importance of life skill training be recognised and included in all schools. Then, in future, we may not come across such tragedies.

Nadir Razak, the founder of Saksham, is indeed to be commended for his efforts. But we can't escape by saying thanks to Saksham. We should learn how to educate our children too. The Government should inculcate such meaningful education in our institutions and give a boost to schools like Saksham.
