Welcome steps

Published at a time when India and Pakistan have been evincing interest in initiating confidence-building measures for speedy normalisation of the strained relationship, Nirupama Subramanian's "Sign of the changing times?" (February 18) assumes great significance. Irrespective of the fact whether it is meant for making peace with India or for promoting tourism, the Pakistan Government's earnest steps to renovate the ancient Ketas Temple Complex at enormous cost are most welcome. An amazing turn of events has provided India a fine opportunity for a reciprocal gesture. In the best interests of the two countries, there should be no hesitation in seizing this opportunity.

India and Pakistan share a rich culture, heritage, custom and tradition. To further their peace process, both governments should develop a good cultural relationship with each other. Imagine staging Bharatanatyam in Karachi and a Sufi music concert in Chennai. Can this not happen?
