Stepmotherly treatment

This is with reference to "Living with a colonial burden" (Literary Review, March 4). Writers in regional languages are given stepmotherly treatment by the government. The growth of IT has also increased the importance of English. The visual media has destroyed much of the reading habits of the people. Most people, who were avid readers earlier, have now donated their eyes to the TV channels.
