It's not junk
This has reference to Indu Balachandran's humorous "Objects with no objective" (March 4). She has depicted the picture of my own house full of "junk" staring at me from all storage spaces. And I have not the slightest idea of throwing away the things I have kept for years. Each has a story to tell me and I can find a use for each item one day or the other. But I was sick to think of my house as a garbage or godown. The article came as a panacea for my guilty consciousness.

It was indeed a pleasure reading the humorous portrayal of one's mentality of holding on to things that have outlived their utility. It was a realistic depiction, which I read sacrificing my Sunday afternoon siesta! The author needs to be complimented for her delectable piece.

Though one cannot fail to note a bit of rhetoric and exaggeration in the account, which was meant to be a humourous, the bottom line is that many of us do tend unawares to accumulate things we may never use in the foreseeable future and go on cursing ourselves frequently for the cluttered domestic ambience, wishing we had a stately' dwelling to accommodate all our possessions. This will be glaringly evident in the lofts and niches of the house rather than in the shelves, and drawers, and one need only to take the decision to clear them all betimes to see just how `spacious' one's dwelling is in reality. At least this is the point of contention in our household currently.
