Reinventing De

LIKE Madonna, author SHOBHA DE is adept at reinventing her image every few years. And she's not sticking to writing and lending her name to designer homes. De launched her sari line and, in an astute business deal, tied up with designers Satya Paul to get the most out of her venture. She provides the creative inputs and they do the more mundane aspects of putting it together and selling it. Speaking at a five-star hotel where models sashayed down the ramp in her creations, De thanked her many friends from the world of glamour and glitz and said that she wanted everyone to wish her "luck since my label is here to stay". De said that her saris "were a natural extension and a logical step. This is a business model based on the popular perception of my persona as someone who has always enjoyed wearing beautiful saris." Of course she would now like to share it with "like minded woman". De added that she "thrives on challenge and is forever pushing the creative boundary. I am in search of newness all the time and get bored with the familiar."
