In support of Gere

WHEN the normally reticent PARMESHWAR GODREJ decides to make a point, most people stop to listen. Godrej, who is known for espousing several causes, HIV/AIDS being one of them, reacted to the controversy over the Richard Gere-Shilpa Shetty kiss: "It saddens me to see that all the effort and the purpose put up for such a cause (HIV AIDS) went totally unnoticed because of the outburst. It detracted from and undermined the value and success of the event."

She added that Richard Gere, with whom she has been working for many long years to create awareness about HIV/AIDS, has been a "tireless worker for the cause and his efforts have been acknowledged worldwide."

Godrej wondered if the energy and uproar that were being directed at the kiss would be better utilised to help strengthen the movement rather than "lynch its strongest crusader".

She said she was convinced that "nothing could ever sully or diminish Gere's stature.
