Yeoman service

“Greening a village” by Subha J. Rao (June 10) was inspiring. The efforts of retired school master Velusamy of Selakarichal village in growing trees especially banyan trees, which provide cover during the scorching summer and thereby reduce heat wave conditions of the village, and to encourage young men to plant and look after trees are laudable and should have Government backing.

E. Sivasankaran,

Coimbatore

The large-heartedness, devotion and commitment of Velusamy are proof that great souls like him do exist. It will be a blessing if every village had a Velusamy.

Ramachander Karur,

Bangalore

In a world obsessed with money, power and the immediate present, Velusamy is an oasis of hope. The present generation may pooh-pooh him but future generation will be grateful to him. We need Velusamys in every corner of the world.

P.U. Krishana,

Udhagamandalam
