SIGHTINGS

Focus on his work

SUCHITRA BEHAL

If I’m working and a big controversy crops up I tell myself that I need to concentrate on my work.” So says actor AAMIR KHAN in response to why he never clarifies anything for the media. Khan, whose personal and prof essional life have been under siege for the past few months, decided it was time to clear the air and bat out some of the rumours that have been doing the rounds. On his marriage to Kiran Rao: “There have been rumours about her and me, they are untrue. She’s busy with a script.” On his directorial debut: “I did have creative differences with the writer of the first ever film which I have directed. But there is no problem and he’s given me a free hand.” On his status in filmdom: “Look I don’t compete with anybody, not even myself. I just go into a role and do my best.” He clarified that he was an actor and not an activist. “But it is the duty of every Indian to speak up for the causes they feel strongly about.” As for politics: “Nah, that’s not for me,” said Khan.
