From management to films
SUCHITRA BEHAL
ARINDAM CHAUDHURI like the Amritraj brothers, knows that films are a medium that cannot be ignored. This tech-savy young entrepreneur, who’s made a name for himself teaching business development and studies at his institute, is happy that his film “Faltu” has been selected in the competitive category for the Spain Film Festival. Chaudhuri, who has set up Planman Motion Pictures, concedes “Indian cinema still needs a lot of work in terms of quality to make it to the competitive categories of other international film festivals.” He said that though his company was ready to venture into commercial or mainstream cinema “there was a strategy that had to be followed.” Chaudhuri outlined his perfect recipe for success: “Though the script is of primary importance, we also need to work backwards. Basically to gauge the market potential of the movie. That is how one is able to gauge the budget allotment. Translated in simple marketing terms: One cannot spend huge amounts on a project when you don’t see prospective returns,” said Chaudhuri. Now if only some of our directors were to consult him; may be some huge disasters could be avoided.
