Impact on environment

Hats off to Suprabha Seshan (Snow, dykes and Scottish pines, September 23) for not only highlighting the adverse impact of global warming-induced climate change in a rather subtle manner through the medium of a travelogue, but also for the excellent narrative which gave one the feeling of travelling along with the writer. Yes, the weather is showing extreme fluctuations not only in Europe but over the entire globe, all admittedly due to rise in global surface temperatures because of over-industrialisation and over and unethical consumption of the Earth’s resources — a development model that is not compatible with our survival. Since we are the cause, we will have to find the cure and put a halt to humans’ slow march towards extinction. Only our efforts today will determine what landscape, and flora and fauna, our children would inherit.
