Silent service
With reference to Jayakrishnan Unni’s “Space for compassion” (December 2), Basheer has dedicated his whole life for the uplift of the poor students and the downtrodden. His focus is not on his family but on his work. If every one starts focusing on social uplift like Basheer we may not face as many problems as we do today.

Basheer’s silent service to poor students is deserves all appreciation. His assertion “I believe in only two classes (Male and Female) and in four groups (A, B, AB and O) deserves much applause. The most precious thing on earth cannot be seen or touched but can be felt in one’s heart only.

Basheer has proved that no service is greater than service to mankind. If not for his yeoman service to root out illiteracy, the children would have been sent to work at an early age. His gesture not only deserves a befitting reward from the government but also sets a good precedent for others so that no poor child misses out on an education.
