Shashi Tharoor’s “Post-modern malls and medieval mind-sets” (December 9) highlights the need to contain medieval practices like torture of women. Violence against women, whether as verbal abuse, physical abuse, aborting female foeticide, continue in our society. With a decreasing number of women, demographic imbalance has already started to show its ugly face in many states in India.
