All for the arts

SUCHITRA BEHAL

TINA AMBANI stole a march over many others of her ilk when she had curators from the Peabody Museum looking into the works of artists in residency on the Dhirubhai Knowledge City. Ambani, who is busy expanding her ambit from art collection to setting up and popularising residency programmes, said that the “idea behind each of my art endeavours is to popularise Indian art, both locally and globally. Art has the power to bridge gaps in cultures and this can create a dialogue through universal language.”

Her programme has artists from India, the U.S. Canada, Japan, Brazil and Germany. And though Ambani is happy with her work and its results, she laments the fact that the venture is a few miles out of the main city. “Mumbai cannot offer me the kind of space I need. However I will be happy to loan the sculptures or even sell some of them,” said she. Meanwhile Ambani is looking for more talented hands to join the programme.
