SIGHTINGS

GOOD FOOD LINE

BY SUCHITRA BEHAL

Ex-models either retire or become super moms. PADMA LAKSHMI decided to step away from the beaten track and has made a serious go of her new career as a food writer. She is also busy gearing up for the second season of her foodie show on AXN. Said Lak shmi, “I’m looking forward not only to setting up base in India but also to the release of my book here.” The recipes in the book, said Lakshmi, define her Indian heritage with Caribbean and American influences and, unlike other celeb cookbooks, this one deals a lot with her personal space. “I am defined by my family and by what I think and write about myself. That is why this book is peppered with personal essays and family pictures. In a way this has helped me take control of my life,” said she. Lakshmi said she is happiest in her kitchen. “A good cook is like a sorcerer who creates magic. It’s an art putting together good food; not everyone can do that.”
