SIGHTINGS
Hema Malini
Hema Malini is not always known for speaking out her mind. So when this actor-MP announced the launch of a 15-minute dance video against female foeticide, domestic violence and dowry, which she claims are the “three biggest evils that women of our country face today,” it was something of a pleasant surprise. Malini, who features in the video with her two daughters, said it was necessary to send a strong message against these evils. “We will first introduce the video through our dance ballet and then, depending on the impact, we will convert it,” said she. The rest, of course, depends on the Ministry of Women and Child Development, which Malini is hoping will bring it into theatres and television. Malini said that along with education it was essential that every girl child be taught about women’s rights. “Once they graduate from school they face an ugly world. Even girls from rich families go through bad experiences. According to our culture, after marriage women have to bear with all sorts of torture. But it is high time that they came out of it,” said Malini.
