IN PASSING

Staying ahead

Is it survival instinct or just a creative urge? The lines may be blurred, but designer Ritu Kumar certainly knows how to stay ahead of the pack.

Now she is busy researching and lining up a new khadi collection and a fragrance called “The Tree of Life”.

Said Kumar, “ I want to get khadi on the stage with more than the kurta jhola concept. It has to be made contemporary with different weaves so that young people can appreciate this wonderful fabric.”

Kumar said that she would be in Rajasthan researching and working on this concept.

Meanwhile she’s busy working out the perfect mix for her signature fragrance. “I love the smell of dry earth, which depicts the essence of India. My fragrance has been designed in India and will smell of this country but is going to be produced in France,” said Kumar.

And for those who may forget, Kumar still believes in designing for the Indian climate “You cannot beat that and our USP lies in designing clothes for our climate. ”
