Did you know that Brett Lee’s passion, apart from cricket, is music of all kinds?

“Hum tumare hain aur tumare hi rahenge,” sings the stylish musician, whose prime occupation is to hustle the batsmen from the crease. Australian speedster Brett Lee speaks Hindi with an accent and sings likewise too. These are his favourite lines from a song in his forthcoming movie “Victory”, a chance to see Brett at his ‘second best’ – acting. He plays himself in the film.
He says, “It was fun as it was a movie on cricket”. Asked about the best moments, Brett said, “It was nice to be with Harman (Baweja). We had great fun off screen too because he is an expert in acting and I’m an expert in cricket, so we helped each other."
Music is Lee’s passion. He is an instrumentalist and has a band with six members including his brother Shane. Expressing his love for music, he says, “I love to play the guitar, especially when I’m low or not feeling well from inside. I play the guitar everyday, free and without worrying about anything. To me music is the most peaceful thing; it is the other part of my life".
Mood based
Revealing his choice of his music, he adds, “I like any kind of music; it depends on my mood. I like rock, soft songs and classical music, both Indian and western. I listen to anything and everything, from Metallica to Backstreet Boys. Elton John, Bon Jovi and few Australian bands are few of my favourites. I play acoustic and base guitar in my band and sometime do the vocals also. And when I travel I carry my music everywhere. My iPod and my laptop are the two most important things. It also keeps me well connected.”
Talking of keeping connected, last year, Lee won the hearts of film lovers and cricket lovers alike when he sang a duet with the evergreen Asha Bhonsle! He still regards the experience as “special”.
He loves India too. “It is always a great place to be,” he states, adding, “I love coming to India again and again. It has become a sort of second home for me.”
Any regrets? “No, I’m happy with everything. When I was nine, I wished to become a cricketer and today I’m here. Though the path was full of struggle and obstacles, for instance, my ankle broke seven times but I continued,” he concludes smiling. Time then to create music of the more soothing kind with his guitar rehearsals?
