Meaningless rituals

“Feudal hangover” (August 17) by Samir Nazareth was short, sweet and highly sarcastic. I relished reading it. By pointing out how irrelevant it is in a democracy like ours to present swords, spears, bows, arrows etc. to political leaders at specially organised functions attended by thousands, the author has made an earnest effort to effectively convey a positive message to the numberless naive minions who assiduously choose to continue with this outdated practice. It is laudable. Such meaningless rituals should cease to exist.

K.D. Viswanaathan,
