Tinsel Town

Akki’s 20

Akshay Kumar had hiked his price to Rs. 75 crore before the big recession took place and after Bollywood started tightening its purse strings, King Kumar had no option but to reduce his cost as he wasn’t getting to sign any new films at all and people who had signed him on earlier for larger numbers wanted to back out.

Akki isn’t exactly thrilled, but when Bollywood isn’t making money, how can just one man?

‘Jail’ delayed

Madhur Bhandarkar Productions’ “Jail”, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, in association with Percept Pictures was launched with great fanfare some months back and was supposed to be shot in a start-to-finish schedule.

But now the film has run into rough weather with the injury to Neil Nitin Mukesh’s foot. One source says, “Madhur has delayed the film in the wake of 26/11 in the memory of the lives lost and the uncertainty in Mumbai.”

Anushka’s happy

However, in the end, it all worked out well for “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” heroine Anushka. She not only had one of the most celebrated actors in the business as the co-star but also a great producer-director like Aditya Chopra to back her. “Both of them have been around a long time. I was the one who had to prove myself. But Shah Rukh made it very easy for me. Seeing him act, I too learnt a lot, especially the way he dons his on-screen persona effortlessly,” she gushes.

Accent for Neetu

Neetu Chandra can surely pledge to be a complete Indian. It’s about her films actually. The girl who started off as an English accented air hostess in “Garam Masala”, has gone on to play roles where she needed to try the Gujarati accent (“Traffic Signal”), Jat accent (“One Two Three”) and Punjabi accent (“Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!”).

And if this was not all, the next film she is expecting is a supernatural thriller, “13 B”, which is being directed by the South Indian director, Vikram.
