IN PASSING
Comeback trail
SUCHITRA BEHAL
On the comeback trail this season, actor Raveena Tandon is all set to rock Bollywood again. But, unlike her earlier avatar, Tandon now wants to do meaningful cinema.. So Tandon is presently working on a “women-oriented” film directed by R
evathy Varma.
Meanwhile Tandon, who has been working with various NGOs in the city and some charitable organisations, said that she had become the “ambassador for children suffering spina bifida. There have been times when I’ve actually slept with those children in the orphanages.”
Tandon, who is also into helping stray animals, has adopted 21 homeless dogs and adds proudly, “They are all Indian breeds.” Her little daughter seems to share her passion to help strays, reveals the actor, and adds “Often my husband jokes that our home is like a zoo.” But Tandon seems determined to continue her myriad interests. “I know I will be able to manage all this."
Sheer magic
Santoor player Rahul Sharma is one of the few creative young musicians who does not seem to be in awe of his famous lineage. Sharma, who has managed to carve a niche for himself as a young player who is able to contemporise the santoor and its sounds
, is presently working on one of his biggest projects to date. And an unusual one at that.
In a track composed by him, Sharma is going to get sax player Kenny G to pair up with actor Amitabh Bachchan with Sharma playing the santoor.
“I have been working on this music project for a year now,” said Sharma adding, “The track featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Kenny G will be the first song of the album. We are still in the process of creating the other tracks.” Sharma added that often Kenny G would improvise as they went along, “and that was sheer magic.”
Meanwhile Sharma is hoping to wind up in the next two months and release this stupendous body of work.
Model actor
Arjun Ramphal took his time to gain acceptance in the film world. But once he made the grade, there was no looking back. Now the actor seems to have again shown that he is still world class modelling material, having just completed an international a
d campaign with Nicole Kidman shot in India.
Ramphal said, “It took nine years to make people realise that I was an actor. So now again this offer came up for modelling… you will see it…” Ramphal retains his wicked sense of humour; asked whether he saw John Abraham as a rival with his six packs, he replied tongue-in-cheek, “I think John has always had a great body. But I compete from the front; that’s why I don’t consider him a rival.”
Discussing the IPL, Ramphal said that he would root for Shah Rukh Khan’s team, “Not just because of my friendship with SRK but because I like his team as well. “
