IN PASSING

Diva act

SUCHITRA BEHAL

What is it about Sushmita Sen that makes the gossip columns sizzle? “It could be my open lifestyle or my off-the-cuff statements,” says the actor. Sen, who hasn’t been seen on the big screen for a while now, is considering re-launch ing herself in a series of new roles. As she puts it, “I don’t want to be bound by genres. Yes, I’m really tired of consolation prizes. I am done with the experimenting phase. I think I need to do a lot more commercial films.” Having said that mouthful, Sen was quick to add that she did not regret doing any of the earlier films, “Just that some of them have left a bitter taste in my mouth, I accepted and did a lot of roles that I felt would bring out the actress in me, not the heroine.” She, of course, continues to maintain a silence on her lifestyle choices or the other stories about her that add to the rumour mills. “Maintaining a silence is the ultimate diva act,” adds Sen. She is also quite clear that she would rather wait out her time for the films she has in hand to take off. “Till then I’m happy and am busy with my daughter.”
