Waiting in the wings...

Rahul Dev... Bollywood in need of a new "Champion". Photo: R.V. Moorthy.

AFTER A long innings in the modelling world, this hunk is trying extra hard to give full justice to every character he has to portray in films. He has achieved some success in the Hindi film firmament but is not fully satisfied. He wants to rule the marquee by taking up challenging and meaningful roles, which he can associate himself with. Meet Rahul Dev, whose walk from the ramp to the celluloid could be seen as due to his resilience to succeed in the big bad world of Bollywood.

Though his debut film "Champion" bombed at the box office, his role in it, nevertheless, was well appreciated. In Kalpana Lajmi's "just-released "Kyon" too, playing the role of a incorruptible policeman, he is a modest success.

Letting know about what's cooking in his career at present at Gurgaon's Affinity and Launganis salon-cum-designer store in Sahara Mall recently, Rahul informs, "I am again playing the role of a cop. A corrupt one though, in my upcoming film "Bardasht". In the film, he would be seen opposite former beauty queen Lara Dutta. Rahul would also feature in award-winning Lajmi's next project "Jaane Hoga Kya". Excited about the venture, he says, "The underlying message of "Jaane Hoga Kya" is that one shouldn't tamper with Nature". Aftab Shivdasani, who is playing the role of a scientist in the film, Rahul claims, has given his best performance till date. "While cloning himself there is an accident and his replica turns into a beast", he adds.
