Time for SNACKS

Try out these easy-to-prepare recipes this week and get ready to earn your wows.


IDLI, DOSA and adai are no longer favoured by kids for their evening tiffin. Pizzas, burgers and sandwiches have taken their place. And, eating these things out everyday is an expensive proposition. Try out these easy-to-make recipes at home and see how you fare.

Metroplus Cheese Burger (Serves 2)

Ingredients

Burger bun - 1
Butter - 2 tsp
Lettuce - 3 leaves
Cheese slice - 1
Cucumber Slice - 2
Tomato Slice - 2

For Patties

Boiled, mashed potatoes - 200 gms
Green Capsicum - 50 gms
Garlic - 4 cloves
Onion - 1
Carrot (medium size) - 2
Butter - 1tsp

Method

1. Finely chop garlic, onion, carrot and green Capsicum.

2. Melt butter, sauté the chopped vegetables and add seasoning.

3. Add mashed potatoes, mix well and roll into 4" balls and shape into cutlets.

4. Shallow fry (Pat fry) in a dosa tawa or a griddle with a little oil.

5. Cut burger bun into two, apply butter and brown the buttered sides in a salamander or oven.

6. Set a layer of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes and the grilled patty on one buttered side of the bun and top it with a slice of cheese. Place the remaining half of the bun on top.

Note

For Plain Vegetable Burger, remove cheese slice.


Hot Mirchi Toast (Serves 2)

Ingredients

Sandwich bread - 8 slices

Cheese - 100 gms

Green chillies - 4

Capsicum - 4

White pepper powder - if required.

Method

1. Grate cheese. Chop deseeded green chillies and capsicum.

2. Mix all chopped ingredients with grated cheese.

3. Apply butter on the slices and fill with cheese mixture.

4. Gratinate it and serve hot in desired shapes.

Hakka Noodles

Ingredients

Oil - 2 tsp
Egg noodles - 200 gms
Boneless chicken - 100 gms
Carrot - 50 gms
Cabbage - 100 gms
Capsicum - 50 gms
Green chillies - 4
Onions - 2
Beans sprout - 50
Ginger - 2
Garlic - 5 cloves
Salt - to taste
Ajinomoto - to taste
Soya Sauce - 1 tsp
White pepper powder - to taste
Vinegar - ˝ tsp

Method

1. Wash and cut all vegetables and chicken into juliennes (long strips).

2. Boil water and cook noodles to three-fourth.


3. Heat oil, add chopped ginger, garlic and shredded green chillies and sauté for a while. Add remaining vegetables, including bean sprouts, and sauté.

4. Sauté Chicken in a separate pan and add to vegetable mixture.

5. Add cooked noodles, seasoning, soya sauce and vinegar. Toss, garnish with spring onions and serve hot.
