Marble takes on myriad artistic forms at Rajputana International's newly opened showroom

Pics by R. Ragu
A MARBLE staircase and elegant balustrades with polished railings lead into Rajputana International's newly opened showroom of marble icons, idols, puja mandaps, jaali screens, inlay table tops artefacts and jharokhas. The collection is symbolic of the hereditary skills of artisans who once worked on the Taj and the Itmatudulla. Rajputana International's latest sculpture is a 4-feet tall Madonna and Infant Jesus, which was recently installed at the Velankanni Church, Besant Nagar. Serene and beautiful with flowing lines and harmony, the piece epitomises a tradition, which still retains its spiritual strength.
Gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, Krishna, Radha, Shiva and the lingam as well as puja mandaps form a compelling part of the collection.
The showroom has beautifully sculpted fountains and horses, lions and other animal forms. The horse heads are sculpted intricately. Vases in different styles in green, pink, white and grainy marble are as attractive as tabletops with intricate inlay work in precious and semi-precious stones. Painted wall plates, chess sets and ashtrays are also available.
Gods and animal figures are crafted out of ruby, coral, pearl, jasper, lapis lazuli and amethyst too. The `Rajputana International' showroom is located at 55/2 1st Floor, 100 Feet Road, Vadapalani.
