Stitching dreams

IT'S SEPTEMBER and people have started preparing for the wedding season and fashion designers are busy stitching their dreams to reality. And when it is nuptial it has to be colour so all those connoisseurs of white have to change to be chic and Vijaylakshmi Dogra is no different. Known for pastel shades and crinkled shirts and kaftans, Vijaylakshmi is introducing a new line of clothes under her label Tex Indus during the forthcoming Bridal Asia 2003.

"Yes, it is different from my earlier collections. The colours are much brighter like magenta, fuchsia and burgundy giving festive hues to the collection. My work is known to be inspired by paintings of famous artists. This time it's Bulbul Sharma and a new talent Ashutosh. I have taken motifs from their works to add aesthetic appeal to my designs," says Vijaylaksmi, who also runs the famous art gallery Art Indus in the Santushti Shopping Arcade.

She informs, "The collection has a range of heavily embellished lehngas in the latest A forms matched with trendy short kurtis and quilted jackets to be worn with saris. In saris, we are introducing stitched saris with traditional motifs and a belt like drawstring adding to the looks of the unconventional modern bride." On the trend this year she believes that bride will get bolder with designers designing not only for the main occasion but cocktails and related parties as well. So incomes short kurtas with cargo pants and shorter and strapped kurtis with long skirt-shaped lehengas.

With crepes, pure silk and matka silk as canvas this artistic designer finds ample scope to showcase her elegantly crafted designs creating an aura of pond full of lotuses here and bird flying in the twinkling sky there.

With price range between Rs.5000 and Rs. 45,000, if you are looking for elegance and class in your wardrobe, Vijaylakshmi is worth a try this season.
