Marmalade spreads

A barbecue section and a larger dining area give this trendy eatery an added variety

ALTHOUGH MARMALADE bistro was opened a while ago, it is only a couple of months since `BBQ @ marmalade', the barbecue section, was launched. The restaurant on Khader Nawaz Khan Road provides a comfortable dining experience as it is set in a house that looks like a charming traveller's bungalow.

Potato mozarella rockets (Rs. 65), a crispy combination of potatoes and cheese, which almost tastes like cutlet, or asparagus `n' cheese (Rs.75) with green and black olives and tomato topping will be a great way to start a meal. Non vegetarians could try the brochette of chicken with sour nut sauce (Rs. 75). Crab cakes with mango and chilly salsa (Rs. 80) will be ideal if you are a seafood buff. For starters, there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian soups. The restaurant changes the soup everyday.

Marmalade has extended the dining area to the bistro and the same menu is made available through the day. The bistro has a private dining area for families and is also available for small parties.

The main course will appeal more to the non-vegetarians than the vegetarians. Marmalade now offers a new menu and a variety of pasta dishes (veg Rs.130, non-veg Rs.150). Every table has a `create your own pasta' form, which offers variety. For example, you can pick the kind of pasta you want to eat — penne, farfelle, fusilli, fettucini or spaghetti — as well as the sauce and toppings to go with it. You could go in for the basil pesto sauce (a combination of sweet basil, parsley, olive oil, garlic, nuts and cheese) or penne pasta for the real Continental taste. There is also the all-time classic tomato basil (with tomato base) on spaghetti.

If pastas are not for you, you can go for char grilled cottage cheese with mushroom pepper sauce (Rs.150), barbecued vegetable (Rs. 150) or vegetabe shish taouk (vegetable cooked Lebanese style served with pastas cooked in Thai sauce). Non-vegetarians can savour lemon `n' caper grilled prawn (prawns marinated French style, grilled and served with lemon `n' caper butter sauce, Rs. 275), lamb shank (grilled lamb shank served with potatoes and mushrooms, Rs. 225) and Jamaican jerk chicken (spicy and full bodied chicken with spices barbecued and served with Mexican frijoles, Rs. 190). The dessert of the day, sorbet of the day, barbecued pineapple with honey and vanilla ice cream and tiramisu trifle — all priced between Rs.70 and Rs. 90 — complete the meal. Chocolate surprise pudding, a popular dessert, would be anyone's delight. For more information call: 52139712.
