Look fresh all day

Looking washed out and sapped by the evening? Here is the solution

EVERY MORNING you scrub your face, apply your make-up and hit the road looking drop dead gorgeous. Come afternoon, your face begins to look sallow and towards the evening, sapped! Familiar, isn't it. Blame it on the rigours of day-to-day life.

"External factors such as sunlight, pollution and air-conditioning, and internal factors such as stress can leave you looking washed out towards the evening. But you can check this if you follow a regular beauty and health regimen," says Laila Kakade, Begums, Chirag Ali Lane, Tel: 23203314.

Make-up: "Today foundations come with sunscreen and moisturisers. Foundation is ideal for daywear. You can use the concealer for the soirees.

Stick to a brown or pink lipstick, preferably those enriched with chamomile, which is a soothing ingredient, shea butter that serves as deep moisturiser, and UV filters during the day. Also, it is not advisable to wear eye shadow in the morning. Keep them for the evening drama," says Laila.

Your daily bread: Yo-yo dieting can leave tell tale signs on the way you look at your desk. One, the pangs of hunger can bring about mood swings and stress that is reflected immediately on the barometer — your face. So, don't give in to binge diets or ever think of skipping your meal.

Also, it is not advisable to gorge on those French fries as it will reflect on your face which will, in all probability, look like a grease paper by the evening. "Incorporate lots of fresh fruits and green vegetables in your diet. Drink plenty of water for a clearer skin," says Laila. Nicotine and liquor are a no-no, if you don't want a pallid dehydrated face, that is.

The right care: "First, switch over to a soap-free face wash from the dehydrating alkaline soaps. A paste of milk powder with cucumber juice and rose water refreshes and lightens the skin by removing the tan and blemishes. You can follow this routine daily," says Laila. Also, go in for a weekly scrub and mask do for that glow across the week.

Masks for radiant skin: "There are several masks that offer you an instant glow, which you can prepare at home. For dry skin, begin with a honey, milk and oatmeal paste scrub.

Wash your face pat dry and apply a honey and egg yolk moisturising mask. Take 1 teaspoon honey, 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon almond oil. Mix them into a paste and apply on the face. Leave it for about 15-20 minutes and wash. For normal skin, the same pack can be used minus the almond oil."

"For oily skin, an oatmeal and orange juice scrub made with a small quantity of egg white is ideal, followed by a tomato pulp pack. Peel the tomatoes, crush the pulp and apply all over the face leaving the area around the eyes and lips. Wash away after a few minutes. This pack rejuvenates and tightens the skin," says Laila.

Finally, go easy on stress, think positive and walk tall. A smile always adds a sparkle to the visage, anytime of the day.
