Over 300 children from 30 different schools participated in the poetry writing competition `Poetrix 2003' jointly organised by Razzmatazz and Rotary Club of Visakha Port City recently. The contest was in two categories - submitted works and on the spot - and the children were allowed to write in Telugu, Hindi and English.
The following are the names of the winners of the written contests in various categories: Telugu poetry - Md. Anifa of Pollocks School is the winner while K. Kavita of the same school was the runner up. Hindi poetry: Abhishek Pandey of Delhi Public School was the winner.
English: Juniors (Class IV - VII): Surabhi Srivastava (Naval Public School), Varun Pinto (NPS) and Sivani Srivastava (Visakha Valley School) won the first, second and third prizes respectively. In the senior category ( Class VIII to X) Arvind Upadhayaya (Siva Sivani Public School), Harish (Timpany School) and B. Manish (Zinc Smelter School) won the first, second and third prizes respectively. Aruna Chandrasekhar (Std XII) of Visakha Valley School was given a commendation award.
Results of `On the spot contest':
Telugu poetry: Juniors - P. Dinesh Babu (VVS). Seniors - Bharani Madhav (VVS). Hindi poetry: Vishal Panday (DPS), Abhishek Panday (DPS) and Priyanka Shandilya (Gayatri Vidya Parishad) won the prizes in the junior, senior and super senior categories.
English:
Juniors - Surabhi Srivastava (NPS) and K. Namrata (Timpany School), Seniors - A.V. Harish (Timpany School) and Pallavi Patnaik (Timpany) and super seniors - Shantala Rao (Narayana Jr. College) and P.V. Lakshmi (VVS).
In addition to these, the following have won the `Creative excellence award' for 2003. They are: Kriti Godey of Timpany School and Soumya Bollapragada (St. Joseph's College) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to creative writing.

Shanti Priya Sahu, a Std. VI pupil of Olivet School bagged the `Super Kid 2003' award instituted by the Vizag Jaycees. The award was given to her by the Municipal Commissioner, Naveen Mittal, recently.
Shanti Priya has won many medals at the district, state and national levels for her excellence in roller skating, says the school principal, Sunitha Nair. The girl has now been awarded the same title at the zonal level (AP to Assam). The award was given to her at the Zone IV, Indian Jaycees conference held at Rajahmundry on September 27.

The National Cadet Corps (Vizag Group) has added two more troops at Etasi Timpany Secondary School last week. The troops are under the control of 2 (A) G Bn NCC, Vizianagaram and 6 (A) Air Sqd. NCC, Visakhapatnam for boys and girls respectively. The Executive Director of ETASI Timpany Schools, David Samuel, inaugurated the new NCC divisions. The NCC Group Commander, A.V.S. Rama Rao, was the guest of honour. The principal, Nalini Nelson, spoke.
