Worth a dial

WE HAVE seen thrillers set in the cramped confines of a room ("Panic Room") or even a bus ("Speed"), but director Joel Schumacher confines himself to a telephone kiosk on a busy New York street in "Phone Booth". It is an 80-minute tense and taut moral tale in Hitchcock style as Colin Farell, a sleazy publicist, finds himself trapped in a telephone booth pinned down by an extortionist's sniper rifle. The film is absorbing, unusual and filled with suspense.
