Women like jewellery with minimalist design...
|
UNCONVENTIONAL JEWELLERY is in vogue in Kerala these days. A blend of old and new designs is what the buyers are looking for.
Women like classic pieces with minimalist design, convenient for daily wear. Boosting this trend is the surge of branded jewellery.
`Taara', a new section devoted to branded jewellery, will be inaugurated at the Alukkas showroom on October 27. The brands will include diamonds from `De Beers', jewellery from `Asmi' and `Nakshatra', platinum jewellery and `Mikura' pearls.
The buzzword is solitaire. Whether suspended on a delicate strand of white gold or set in a chunky band of platinum, solitaire rules supreme. In antique jewellery, uncut diamonds are in vogue. The look is definitely contemporary and western.
`Asmi', a new range of jewellery launched by the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), is delicate and stylish. The average price range of `Asmi' (meaning `I am' in Sanskrit) is Rs. 15,000; each piece comes with its own certificate of authenticity.
`Nakshatra' captures the essence of Indian tradition and presents them in modern designs. The timeless classic, the five or seven-stone earring, is essentially seen as a must-have in every woman's jewellery collection. `Nakshatra' has about 200 new designs, ranging from pendants, rings, earrings, brooches and bracelets. Prices start at Rs. 8,000.
The contemporary trend is gold in white or lighter shades. The emphasis is on lightweight jewellery and the accent is on matt, satin, brushed, sand-blasted and scratched finish.
Vintage styling with precious and semi-precious stones is fast catching on. Platinum is, perhaps, the most coveted metal of today. It is the perfect metal to set diamonds in. Plain platinum in matt finish is in vogue.
"Ours is the first showroom to showcase platinum jewellery," claims John Alukka. "It is targeted at the high-end buyer, because platinum is very expensive."
One of the expensive platinum sets (Rs. 20 lakh) displayed at the showroom is encrusted with diamonds and includes a pair of earrings, a bracelet, a ring and a necklace. The price for platinum jewellery starts at Rs. 10,000 for a piece that weighs about 3 gm. The price includes the cost of the metal, diamond and the production cost.
`Mikura' pearls from Japan are also being unveiled at `Taara'. These will be available in loose strands.
