Phenomenon
AMONG DIWALI releases, Vikram's "Pitamagan" is the clear winner at the box office. The film has taken a fantastic initial all over Tamil Nadu and Kerala and is being appreciated by the classes and masses alike. Though Vikram does not speak any dialogue or sing songs, the crowd, especially in small towns, is giving a standing ovation to the actor's grunts, groans and grimaces.
The `adhi manushyan' (stone-age man) based on which the character has been etched by director Bala has worked commercially as the film is not plot-driven but moves on the strength of its characters played by Vikram, Surya, Laila and Sangeeta. Said `Albert' Mariappan, a trade expert: "Before the release the trade was sceptical and said it was a class film but Bala, Vikram and the rest of the team have created magic at the box office because the audience are coming to see the towering performance of the lead actors! It is early days but indications are that "Pitamagan" has all the potential to turn into a blockbuster. The film proves beyond doubt that Vikram is the undisputed king at the turnstiles.
