BANGALORE BOY Pankaj Advani was accorded a hero's welcome on his return from the Chinese City of Jiangmen with the World Snooker Championship Cup.
Banners proclaiming "Boy Wonder Awesome Advani" and "Teen Sensation" greeted the young champion for whom the feeling was "yet to sink in". There were many moist eyes too as young and old admirers and well-wishers could not hide their joy and excitement. His coach Arvind Savur and his family shed tears unabashedly.
Pankaj became the fourth Bangalore sporting hero after B.S. Chandrashekar, Prakash Padukone, and Anil Kumble to be accorded a motorcade reception from the Airport to the Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA) premises. A traditional aarthi and bursting of crackers welcomed Pankaj to his second home.
Pankaj, a Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College student, looked "prim and proper" in the Mysore Peta that was crowned on him by Roshan Baig, Minister for Small Scale Industries and Haj.
