Telling colours
|
The colours you wear or use in your home reveal a lot about the person YOU.

`A PART of me is brilliant blue- nice and buoyant. Deep inside there is another part of me that is golden yellow- shy but cheerful and crazy. Yet there is another part of me that is grumpy green- grouchy and stubborn. Today I am yellow and blue.' What colour are you today?
Colours are a dominant force in our lives. They are nothing but light in different shades and we cannot live without them. We express ourselves through the colours we wear and the colours we use in our homes. The cells of our body react to it or the absence of it and this directly affects our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. We are thus naturally drawn to colours that we need to correct any energy imbalance in ourselves that causes physical or mental discomfort.
Colour healing was practised by ancient civilisations. It was Sir Issac Newton (1642-1727), who discovered how the colour spectrum is produced. His work forms the basis of understanding of colours.
Later studies by scientists established the importance of colours on the human body. It was observed each organism in our body had a colour that either activated or repressed its functioning. Thus if any part of the body malfunctioned it could be stimulated and restored by treating it with the appropriate colour.
The seven coloured rays of the sun possess both physical and psychological characteristics. The warm rays are red, orange, yellow and green. The red ray whose energy centre or chakra is at the base of the spine stimulates physical activity, which is vital for procreative functions. Red is also associated with qualities of strength, will and courage. The orange ray concentrated in the navel helps in absorption and digestive functions of the body. Yellow is the ray of the intellect and its chakra is situated in the solar plexus. This colour is associated with intelligence, reasoning and ability to concentrate. Green corresponds to the heart and is concentrated in the chest. It is associated with qualities of harmony, peace, balance, sympathy, compassion etc.
The cool rays are the remaining blue, Indigo and violet. These rays take us inward and higher from the physical to the spiritual level. Blue corresponds to the throat chakra- the point of speech. Its attributes are truth, loyalty and reflection. Indigo transforms us higher still to the forehead or the third eye. This takes us to the psychic realm. Violet is the last of the spectrum and relates to a higher level of consciousness. This chakra is on the centre of the head. People of this ray are inclined toward spirituality .
Colours are mood shifters and act on our brains by arousing feelings and passions. They produce biochemical reactors within our body thereby directly stimulating certain glands like the pituitary gland, which is the major gland of the endocrine system. In today's world, colour plays a significant role, though often underplayed. Hospital gowns are usually light green which stands for sympathy, compassion or light blue denoting loyalty and calmness. Prison walls in some western countries are usually in shades of pink- a colour, which reduces violent and aggressive outbursts among inmates. In certain schools, yellow is used to stimulate learning. However, it is a colour to be avoided in mental institutions, as it tends to over excite. The brightness of orange is used in advertisements for it is attributed to positive thinking and progress. Red a favourite among lovers is the colour of passion and is used to declare love. So colourshave an intimate relationship with you. For each colour has some meaning, some secret, some memory that is exclusively yours.
