GONE ARE the days when an aspiring musician or a filmmaker joined a troupe as a light man, then graduated to a make-up artiste, assistant director before making his own film or compiles music. Today, with increasing competition in the media industry, formal education has become necessary to gain better employment opportunities. SAE Technology College is just trying to get this message across. Started in 2000, the college organised its first cultural event, `Lissenup Fest 2003' this past week. Over 15 city colleges participated in the two-day event, which had a line of competitions such as Adzap, Djing, Indian band, western band, scriptwriting, short film production, poster designing and debate to test the creative talents of the students.

SAE Technology College offers diploma in audio engineering, multi media technologies and digital filmmaking. The college also provides bridge courses to introduce students to world of sound engineering, filmmaking and basics of multimedia technologies.

The idea behind organising the cultural fete was to provide an opportunity for college students to experience the events unique to media students. The valedictory function that was held in the Image Auditorium started with the performance of the SAE band playing their own compositions with audio engineering students from across the country — fusion music combining Gujri Thodi raga, western blues and Bhairavi raga. A fashion show by the students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) marked the finale of the cultural event. SAE has partnered with NIFT to promote fashion in filmmaking. The fashion show had themes inspired from nature, technology, Adam and Eve, water, harmony and space.

L. Vaidhyanathan, music director, Gowtham Menon, director, Ninan Thariyan, Editor, Times of India, Paneer Selvam, Head, Sun News, Praveem Mani, music director, Dharani filmmaker, Shalini, playback singer, Suresh Peters, music director and Janaki Sabesh actress and voice over artiste were among the eminent personalities present in the event. SAE plans to make this a yearly event. For more information contact 28214045.
