Chords & Notes

KAL HO NA HO

Sony Music, Rs.55.

SIX SONGS, three on either side, and all are hummable. The title song sung by Sonu Nigam has already made waves that only affirms one's faith on Sonu yet again as a capable singer than an actor. The foot-tapping bhangra mix "Mahi Ve" reminds one the tunes of "Shaba Shaba" from "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham", while "Pretty Women" and "It's The Time To Disco" are other foot tapping numbers worth playing to lift a wilted spirit.

"Kuch To Hua Hai" is also a cute, little lovey-dovey number. For those having an interest in light, hummable music, the cassette is worth buying.

PYAAR KA JASHN

Sa Re Ga Ma, Rs.55

THE ADVANTAGE and disadvantage of employing a ghazal singer and musicians to compose music is the same. We end up listening to the same tune in almost all the renditions, and all sound like a modified version of one ghazal. The album "Pyar Ka Jashn" that contains eight ghazals by Kaifi Azmi and sung by Roop Kumar Rathod, leaves the same impression.

Out of six of Kaifi's, some unpublished poetic pearls in the album, "Aise Lumhain" not only sounds different but also more hummable than others. The title ghazal and "Khas-o-Khar To Uthe" are worth listening many a times yet one can't escape the monotony that prevails by the time the cassette ends.

C21

Virgin Records, Rs. 135

IF YOU are game for romantic numbers, then this audiotape is your cup of tea. Sung by three young singers - Esben, Soren and David - all the 18 songs can be called so-so. The usual guitar dos, a bit of drumming and that soft and dragging voice one needs to churn out a romantic number.

On the better side, a particular mention can be made about the numbers, `Don't Wanna Lose You", "Be With You Again" and "Love Will Never Lie".

And, if you are keen on knowing the song lyrics, they are available on www.c21.dk

OUT OF CONTROL

Puja Music.

ANOTHER APT song for marriages, "Jodiyan Ban Gayi Hain" sung by Adnan Sami, Udit Narayan and chorus, is a Punjabi mix. Yet, this comes out better than many others for it contains not just lilting notes but also some emotional contents.

"India Se Main Aaya Hoon" by Sonu Nigam might be a temporary success. Others are easily forgettable despite Shreya Ghoshal and Babul Supriyo making their presence felt in some hummable numbers.

KHAKEE

T-Series, Rs. 55

THIS SAGA of upholders of law is writing new rules in music by introducing remix versions before the original versions and what is sillier, in the same cassette just on different sides. So there is "Aisa Jadoo Dala Re" by Sunidhi Chauhan to oust "Dilli Ki Sardi" of the charts but don't worry the magic doesn't have credentials to cast a long spell. Ram Sampat have reserved their finest for the opening tune "Wada Raha" where once again Shreya Ghoshal is at her harmonious height.
