"North Indian thali fest."
Green Park, the trendsetters in popularising the `eating out' concept have come out, for the first time, with the North Indian thali festival. It offers the guests a wide array of dishes to choose from, vegetarian or non-vegetarian. The delicacies include paneer dishes, dum aloos, raitas, dal, parathas, various halwas, cucumber and other North Indian specialities, served with unlimited helpings.
Perhaps, such an elaborate thali will not be available at most hotels even in the North. The festival is a steal for gourmets of Northern delicacies.
"Targetted primarily at the settlers from other metros in the country, the festival has evoked very good response and we plan to make it a regular feature in our hotel," says its general manager, K.V. Madhu Nair.
The menu specially dished out by the executive chef, Lalit Bhatnagar, and the sous chef, Deepak Kumar, are different for every meal session. The special dishes can be had at all the restaurants in the hotel both in lunch and dinner sessions.
The festival will be on till Sunday.
Orient Express
For people who want to indulge in different forms of oriental cuisine then a visit to the Ming Garden in Taj Residency is a must. The hotel is currently hosting a Malaysian Food Festival at their exclusive Chinese restaurant.
Malaysian cuisine is a unique blend of British, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Arabic and Malay cuisines. Though rice and noodles form the staple food, the use of seafood and chicken is ubiquitous. The tangy and spicy flavour of Malay cuisine sets it apart from all other oriental cuisines.
Though the dominance of non-vegetarian is distinctive in the cuisine, the five-star hotel has quite a few dishes for the vegetarians like chap chai, sayur campur and poh pia je. In the non-vegetarian section, Malaysia's most popular dish, Satay, leads the array of dishes made of chicken and seafood.
"We have got a specialist chef flown from Hyderabad for this festival that will be on till Sunday," says its general manager, Matthew Thomas.
The festival is on a la carte basis and the dishes will be served for both lunch and dinner.

The Italian connection
The moment one talks of Italy the mind gets tuned to the pleasant picture of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the shouts from a jam-packed football stadium and the sweet aroma of pasta and tossed macaroni. Though the Tower and the hulla-bol of a football match is missing the aroma of Italian delicacies will drift into the nostrils of all passerby's on the Beach Road. Yes, The Park is organising a `Pasta Festival' at their multi-cuisine restaurant, The Lighthouse, that concludes on Monday.
The menu includes a variety of non-vegetarian and vegetarian fare like Sicilian style fish with garlic tossed macaroni, eliche tricolour in tuna sauce, gnocchi with herbs and puree of greens and fusili and broccoli in creamy alfredo sauce.
For the connoisseurs of food a visit to The Park would be an exciting tour through some of the most exotic and classic Italian recipes.
