Srikanth with Anitha, Laya and Vidya
Cast: Srikanth, Anitha, Laya, Sangeetha, Vidya, Sunil, M.S. Narayana
LOOKS LIKE it is time for some laughs on Telugu screen with comedies taking centre-stage. But how many of them do justice to this genre is the moot point. However, Venki has done it again, with finesse this time. If his Kabaddi Kabaddi was coarse, his latest Nenu Pelliki Ready is an improvement on that. Though there is nothing new to write about the storyline, the dialogue, timing and good performances make Venki win the day despite a few glitches here and there.
Gopikrishna (Srikanth) is an eligible bachelor who does not want to marry because he is not sure if he would get the right girl. However, yielding to the pressure of his grandparents (M.S. Narayana and Ramaprabha), he registers himself with a marriage bureau run by a pretty young lady (Sangeetha) who herself looks quite eligible. But, she suggests three names, that of Savithri (Anitha) who is a freelance journalist, Bhavna (Laya), a classical dancer and Neha (Vidya), a bank employee.
It is time for the hero to woo them to find out who is the suitable girl among the three. But even before he could make a decision, the three girls fall for him and also threaten him with suicide if he does not reciprocate. Now Gopi is in a fix because he wants to get rid of all the three. How he does this and whom he finally marries makes the story.
Apparently, the aim of the director is to present a good comedy, and he succeeds doing it with slapstick. But, at the same time, he fails to build up the characters and situations to make the story more interesting. The characterisation of Gopi is a bit vague. First of all, it is not clear what Gopi is looking for in his life-partner and his meetings with the three girls appear frivolous. And, most important, he does not attribute any reasons for rejecting the girls.
Maybe the director wanted to maintain some suspense regarding the final choice, but halfway through it becomes quite evident as to whom Gopi is finally going to marry. Yet, the movie makes entertaining viewing, mainly for the dialogue and good timing. The repartee by M.S. Narayana is really good while Sunil gives able support to the comedy track.
Srikanth, Anitha and Laya deliver the goods while Vidya has to improve on her expression. Since Sangeetha gets much less footage compared to other girls, excepting a song, there is nothing much to expect from her. Though the first half goes on predictable lines, the second half moves faster. Ali comes at the fag end of the movie but he is the surprise package worth waiting. Music by Chakri is average.
