The VJ hunt

Want to be a VJ? Here's a chance...

SS MUSIC is on a hunt for VJs. It has cast its dragnet across four cities - Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi - in a move to add four more to its already rich seam of VJs.

Last month it scoured Bangalore for potential VJs. Five names have been short-listed from that city. This month, the focus is on Chennai. The online registration facility available at Sify.com. The aspirants will be evaluated by comparison with a benchmark, which is called the "VJ Factor". The VJ Factor conflates six qualities. If you can talk nineteen-to-the-dozen not just in English, but also in the four south Indian languages, then you meet one of the requirements - multilingualism. If you know the MTV and vernacular music charts forward and backward, you meet another - knowledge of music. If you can take a good-humoured snipe from a rough-and-ready listener well, you have another good quality - attitude. If you can make off-the-cuff remarks about most subjects under the sun in a way that is impressive, then you have another plus - spontaneity. If you can tickle the funny bone without any effort, you have the much-needed sense of humour. If you look larger-than-life because of the way you carry yourself, you meet another requirement - style.

If you possess all these qualities in abundant measure, you sure have a chance of bagging the job. But before you decide to take a crack at the contest, do check your driving licence for your age. If you are below 18, SS Music does not want you at the auditions. And if you are over 28, you are considered "over the hill".

Six well-known personalities will be assigned the task of separating the grain from the chaff. Each of them will be someone who is known for one of the six qualities in the VJ Factor.
