Short-lived happiness
THE MALAYALAM industry, which did not witness any hits after Onam, hopes to make something out of the Ramzan releases. The first film to reach the theatres was Hariharan Pilla Happiyanu (HHPH).
Hariharan Pilla (Mohan Lal) is an honest and efficient contractor. He is accompanied by his team of supervisors, carpenters, painters, played by Cochin Haneefa, Jagathy, Salim Kumar and a whole lot of other comedians. On one occasion, Hari is approached by a local financier, Satyapalan ( C I Paul) to build a new house for him. However, things do not go well between Satyapalan's daughter, Kavya (Jyothirmayi) and Hari. Kavya's pranks cause Hari a lot of embarrassment, even landing him in jail. And what is worse, Hari finds it difficult to get his bills cleared from Satyapalan and his son-in-law Dilip ( Vijayaraghavan) resulting in all his other projects coming to a standstill.
As one sees in most films, enemies turn friends and then lovers. Kavya comes to the rescue of Hari leading to a stereotype finale. Mohan Lal who had sought to revive his career with Balettan, does a good job. Jyothirmayi is better off doing village girl roles than modern ones. Jagathy, Salimkumar and Cochin Haneefa make us laugh although one gets an impression that it is comedy for comedy's sake.
Viswanathan, who had earlier assisted Priyadarsan, makes his debut. Story is by Sunil Impress, while the script has been written jointly by Sunil Impress and P S Kumar.
The music department is also handled by new faces. Rajeev Alunkal has penned the songs while music is by Stephen Devassy. `Mundhiri Vaave..' rendered by Unni Menon is a good number.
Editing has been done by L Bhoominathan while Annadakuttan handles the camera. Stunts are by Thyagarajan while Krishnankutty takes cares of the art department.
The film is produced and marketed by Johny Sagariga. The film has been released in as many as 50 centres across the State in what is an attempt to combat piracy. The film industry should take note of this commendable effort. HHPH may not repeat the huge success of Balettan but it may have a decent run, given the initial collections. The film begins well, while in the second half, it loses tempo.
