A hot favourite

"JASSI JAISI Koi Nahin" (Sony, Monday- Thursday, 9.30 p.m.) is weaning away younger audiences bored of weepy soaps on other channels. The heroine, Mona Singh, a plain Jane who sports a huge black-framed spectacles and braces, may be something of an ugly duckling. But she is turning out to be a hot favourite, specially with the campus crowd. The success of "Jassi... " proves beyond doubt that if channels are willing to try something different, they will find a viewership. The "saas-bahu" sagas continue to rule the charts, but it is the never-say-die spirit of Jassi that makes the viewers root for this serial.
