An exhibition by Polish photographer Piotr Jaxa will be held at the Eighth International Film Festival of Kerala.

A PHOTO exhibition by the famous Polish photographer, Piotr Jaxa, will be a highlight of the Eighth International Film Festival of Kerala, to be held from December 12 to 19. The exhibition, titled `Poets of Filmlight', will comprise 40 photographs of famous cinematographers from all over the world. A still photographer, Piotr Jaxa has worked as a cameraman to Krzysztof Kieslowski. The exhibition will be on view at the lobby of the main venue of the festival, the Kairali theatre.

A film owes its success to many people including the director, actor, scriptwriter and producer. But the director of photography is rarely in the spotlight. `Poets of Filmlight' pays tribute to the directors of photography, who create the images we see on the screen. The exhibition also focuses on the exchange between photography and cinematography - the author of the project, as a cinematographer and photographer, proposes a dialogue between both worlds.

The exhibits are "photographic interviews"; they show the individuals in their environment. As in a film, the space in which a persons lives is a significant element of the depiction of his or her character and personality.

Portraits of Swede Sven Nykvist who has photographed films such as `Fanny and Alexander' and `Chaplin', Frenchman Henri Alekan, who filmed `La Belle et la Bęte', Oswald Morris who did `The Guns of Navarone', Billy Williams, the director of photography of the film `Gandhi', Swiss Renato Berta, whose has made `Au revoir les enfants'. Conrad Hall, Haxell Wexler, Raoul Coutard and other leading names in the world of film photography will be on display.
