CASe study

The article on CAS (Case Study, November 3) seemed to suggest that most of Chennai is happy to watch free channels at Rs.75 a month, quite content with what's on offer. Nothing could be further from the truth. No disrespect to the free channels, but discerning viewers miss quality channels such as Star World, National Geographic, Discovery and Sony. Few people are prepared to shell out Rs. 4,000 plus for an STB and Rs. 300 or so every month. When CAS was first mooted, the Central Government had talked of Rs. 200 as an acceptable monthly subscription figure. Right now both the Central and the State Governments have distanced themselves from CAS. While the whole country watches cable TV (the good and the bad), 99 per cent of Chennai has to make do without it. Are we the guinea pigs in the CAS experiment?
