Pop patriotism

IN BOLLYWOOD, pop patriotism sells, specially if it is packaged with jingoism and relentless Pakistan-bashing such as "Border", "Sarfarosh" and "Gaddar". Now J. P. Dutta, the director who specialises in chest-thumping war movies, is coming out with "LOC — Kargil", a 4-hour 12-minute tribute to Kargil heroes. "LOC" has an ensemble starcast of almost half the industry — Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Manoj Bajpai, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna and 20 others. The six leading ladies are Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Esha Deol, Namrata Shirodkar and Mahima Chowdary. Said J.P.Dutta, : "LOC" will have no bravado or jingoism or Mera Desh Mahan type dialogue as the ground reality is totally different". The film due for release in Christmas comes at a time when the India-Pakistan relationship is on the upswing!
