Power jackets

Working women can get that look of confidence by adding a few jackets to their wardrobe.

WINDS OF change have swept over the working woman's wardrobe.

She needs dresses that make her feel confident.

Though meetings, luncheons and social gatherings after work may dictate the choice of a wardrobe, most of the choices are dictated by professional life.

The soft style is in this season. The soft approach features a relaxed, year-round fabric and has normal padding in the chest and shoulder area. While allowing freedom, it still retains the tailored look. In tune with the trends for this winter, the lapels should not be too wide and not too thin, extending a little more than halfway between the collar and the shoulder tip.

This winter, you must begin your jacket wardrobe with a navy blue suit jacket, which is slimming and serene, business-like and chic. Your next choice could be in worsted wool. The series could be followed by a chalk stripe (ideally on navy base).

Add a little colour and pattern such as a mini hounds tooth in soft camel brown. Go for mini patterns in a red base. Make an assuming statement in a multicolour pinstripe. At once forceful and restrained, the black and white glen plaid wool jacket could be your next choice. Finally, you could go in for a rich brown herring bone mohair jacket finishing a serviceable line that you can carefully rotate. Sandblasted suede, silk blends are a part of this narration.

The two-button jacket suits most. With its elongated frontal `V' showing more shirt, it tends to lengthen the body.

Three button jackets are popular. You could either button the top two (do this on a good waist) or the last two with the top button remaining unbuttoned behind the lapel. (This shows more shirt area through the lapel opening, making you look tall). Choose what suits your body.

The double-breasted jackets have faded away in the feminine domain. Though with striped shirt with French cuffs, it could still be a good choice. The trend is towards `controlled casualness'. T-shaped panel lines, zipper fronts, flap-path pockets, and customised sequin work are style details that are indicated in jackets this season. Team jackets with trousers, capris, and skirts.
