From nail extensions and restorations to rejuvenating manicure and nail art, Spratt Nail Bar offers everything you can think of

All those youngsters who are not satisfied with just nail colour can now have designs and patterns too.
BEAUTY PARLOURS intimidate me. The more up-market ones, with super-efficient assistants who are better turned out than the clientele, overwhelm. It was, therefore, tentatively that I pushed open the plush glass doors of Spratt the Hair Studio and stepped into a bustling space where those very super-efficient assistants I feared, tended to very well turned out young, lovely, happy people. Hair dryers buzzed, scissors snipped and the air smelt of perfumed gels and unguents.
But then Rita Spratt walked up to me, with a large friendly smile and a very professional demeanour and asked if I'd been attended to. I shook my head and soon, I was in the hands of cheerful, patient Lun from Manipur, who quickly went about making me feel at ease.
Now then, if I sit bolt upright at parlours, as Spratt pointed out, it is because I rarely spend time in one. My business usually lasts ten minutes at the most, and Leena's girls down the road may not be super-efficient, but are homely and down to earth. However, it was time for me to be disabused of some notions.
It was Spratt's nail bar that had aroused my curiosity. You always knew that people did indulge in things like pedicure and manicure (mine is restricted to scrubbing my nails in the shower with an old toothbrush) but an entire nail bar? "It began as an informal service I provided my clients who came to cut their hair," explained Spratt. Instead of them sitting and staring into space while they had their hair cut, oops, designed / sculpted, Spratt offered them a manicure. She obviously trained her girls well, because this extra service that she provided became extremely popular. And, Spratt who does everything in style, decided to open Bangalore's only and the country's third nail bar.
The range of services offered is varied. From nail extensions and restorations to rejuvenating manicure and ultimate manicure and pedicure and nail art, the bar offers everything you can think off. "It has been a hit since we opened," says Spratt, not without some pride, "and there are times when we've had to make clients wait a while before they could be attended to." With good reason, too. Hydrotherapy with machines that massage your feet, assistants like Lun who know when to press the sole of your hand hard and when to caress it with a feather touch and a place that is sparkling clean, with instruments that have been put through a medical sterilizer make you want to come back for more.
And then, there is the nail art. All those young ones who are not satisfied with painting their nails with an outrageous hue of copper, can now make a statement with designs and patterns of their choice.
They can even decorate them with rhinestones, and soon, Swarvoski crystals.
If that gives you the impression that it is only beautiful people who walk into the nail bar, Spratt is quick to explain that businessmen and women, housewives and of course, youngsters, are all her clientele. Some come for a quick de-stressing, 20 minutes in the middle of their hectic work schedules, while others like to spend more time. Like that young couple next to me who kept making eyes at each other while Spratt's girls fussed over them, till, overcome by the therapeutic hand and foot massages, they nodded off.
What better testimony does a nail bar need?
