A round-up of events planned for the New Year

Usher in the New Year with the right kind of fun and revelry and set the tone for the rest of the year.
A good meal is the perfect way to start off the New Year's Eve celebrations, and the city's restaurants are rolling out exciting fare to set the mood for the evening.
At Hotel Chola Sheraton, The Shanghai Club will host a Eurasian dinner buffet with a live band providing entertainment. `Khao piyo aur mauj karo' is the theme of the evening at Peshawri with a gala dinner, fun and festivities on New Year's Eve. Café Mercara will celebrate `Midnight Blues' from midnight to 3 a.m. with a snacky spread, a live band and games for the entire family.
Try authentic Chettinad fare at Kaaraikudi restaurant. The special New Year's menu includes Alagapuri attukal soup, Kaaraikudi Virundu (thali meals), Kananur nandu masala, vazhai poo vadai, Chettinadu Kaikari biriyani and Pudur era masala. The cuisine from China, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia at Shogun includes Chung King mushroom, Prawn xi-hu style soup, Cheng Du Chicken and rainbow lamb. If you're solely for seafood, Coastline will allow you to choose your veral meen or catfish live which can then be cooked to your specification. There's variety at The Dhaba with murgh jehangir kebab, mansa machili tikka, murgh kurchen, Ludhiana ghost, murgh noor biriyani and more. The New Year specials are available on New Year's Eve from 7 p.m. onwards and for lunch and dinner on New Year's Day.
The Sindoori Hotel has a sumptuous Mughal menu which will be served under the stars with ghazal musicians performing in the background. Having a New Year buffet dinner at The East India Company could win you a surprise gift while a DJ will keep you swinging all night at the Munro Room.
Hotel Quality Inn Sabari goes French with DJ Libellule from Paris and DJ Skooter from Mumbai who will keep the crowd at Grammy going with the latest music. Entry fee is Rs. 799 per person and includes beverages worth Rs. 500. The hotel will also host a Hawaiian evening complete with a live band and theme dance performance. Tickets cost Rs. 1,600 for a couple, Rs. 900 for a single person and Rs. 450 for a child. If you want to relax and take it easy, try dinner at the Mayfair priced at Rs. 300 per person.
The Park hotel transforms itself into a multiplex with entertainment in every studio on New Year's Eve. Renowned performers, artistes and models will entertain guests against a backdrop of themes of various films. Movies will be screened in a special room for children and hotel staff will take care of them, while their parents party with dancers, a live band and more. Entry fee is Rs. 6,750 for a couple and Rs. 3,500 for a single person.
Hotel Residency Towers is all set to ring in the New Year in style at the Bike and the Barrel and the Main Street with parties that start at 8 p.m. Music, dance and great food will characterise the Main Street while the Bike and the Barrel makes merry with a DJ from Kolkata. Blue is the colour of the evening at the Bike and the Barrel and each guest will be given a yard of blue cloth. Guests who use the cloth in the most innovative manner can win attractive prizes. At Southern Aromas, traditional south Indian fare will be served.
At MGM Beach Resort on the East Coast Road, there's a `Funtastetic' carnival on till December 30. A huge buffet (Rs. 399 for adults and Rs. 199 for kids inclusive of taxes) of Chinese, Punjabi, Gujarati and South Indian food will add flavour to the beachside bonfires and music by live bands. A poolside bar will blend cocktails while a magician and a troupe of dancers from Goa will enthral the audience. For every four guests, the fifth gets in for free. On New Year's Eve, MGM resorts turns into `Planet Hawaii' with Roop Johrie and Suhkdev performing Indipop and Bollywood hits. A dance troupe from Bangalore and DJs from Bangalore and Mumbai will keep the guests rocking all night.
Experience a Royal Bash at Le Meridien at the Grand Madras Ballroom with Delhi band Nakshatra, DJ Kunal and belly dancers from Turkey and Uzbekistan. Lucky draws and contests with bumper prizes will be conducted. Another Hawaiian night at the Flame Musictheque with exotic cocktails, DJ Amit and flaring bartenders. A band from the Philipines will serenade diners at the multi-cuisine restaurant Cilantro that features an international buffet. Nausad Khan will perform at an Indian theme night at Navaratna, royal cuisine restaurant. Be serenaded by a live band over a romantic dinner at Kayal seafood restaurant. Guests can also take the New Year Room package that includes entry to the New Year Bash 2004, a room for a couple, brunch on January 1 and pick and drop facilities.
It's a box office night at the Savera The Piano will recreate Hollywood moments while it will be Bollywood night at the Minar. MGR, Vikram, Chandra Babu and Rajnikanth look-alikes will perform at Malgudi to bring alive the best of Kollywood. At Sparks, Farenhite 2004 will bring together the best of DJs and music to rock the night away.
Fire `n' Ice is the mood of the season at Radisson GRT Hotel with a fashion show, a DJ from Bangalore to liven up the evening. At the Great Kebab Factory, "A Blast of Bhangra" is the theme with a DJ playing Punjabi pop hits to accompany the sumptuous kebabs. The Garden Café will be transformed into the Gamblin' Gardens for Las Vegas night. The Gallop Bar will host a Spirited Away beer and snack buffet.
The Copper Point at GRT Grand will resound with the tunes of a DJ with a magician providing extra thrills. A lavish buffet will be spread out at Rs. 999 for adults and Rs. 599 for children. The Oriental Pearl is the place for romantics. High Time will rock to the music of African Safari while Anytime will offer a buffet complete with a guitarist playing country and Western tunes.
WIN TV and Hotel President are hosting Midnight Galatta with unlimited food, fun, games and gifts. Guests are requested to bring old clothes and gifts to be distributed to the underprivileged.
Prarthana Beach Drive-In Theatre will focus on family entertainment a vegetarian and non-alcoholic evening with Abaswaram Ramjhi on New Year's Eve.
