For the family
WITH ONLY a few films clicking at the box office in year 2003, the film industry is looking forward to the Christmas releases as a saving grace. Dileep has not had a hit after CID Moosa and will be hoping to maintain his box office credentials with his latest Pattanathil Sundaran.
The film which has had its share of controversy following a payment dispute between the producer and actor Navya Nair, is directed by veteran cinematographer Vipin Mohan, who is making his
directorial debut. Pattanathil Sundaran is produced by P V Basheer and C Vijayan under the banner of Liberty Thara.
Sundaresan (Dileep) is a matriculate, running a ration shop and is newly wedded to Radhamani (Navya), a M.Sc. graduate. It was their Dosha Jathakams that led to this marriage. Sunderasan has a complex about this and it worsens when Radhamani lands a job in the Secreteriat. Sunderesan is against the idea of Radhamani taking up the job. Radhamani is adamant that she take up the job because she feels that one of them needs a permanent employment to raise a family.
Sunderasan concedes to her demand on condition that he accompanies her. Sunderasan's basic idea behind accompanying her is to make her lose her job and he lets out a bagful of tricks with the help of a peon, Sekharan Pillai ( Cochin Haneefa).
However, his pranks get carried over to such an extent that Radhamani attempts to commit suicide. When she learns that her husband was behind all the trouble, she leaves him and stays with her colleague.
Sunderasan, meanwhile tries to study and get a job for himself and thus patch up the differences with his wife.
The film has songs written by Kaithapram, Sathyan Anthikad and B R Prasad. Music has been composed by Mohan Sithara. `Kannanayal... ' rendered by K J Yesudas and Rimi Tomy is a soulful melody while `Mullapoovin muthae... .' sung by Afsal is a foot-tapper. Joseph Nellikkal has taken care of the art direction. Shaji cranks the camera while Ranjan Abraham takes care of
the editor's job. Sindhuraj has written a good script.
The cast includes Jagathy, Salim Kumar, Bindu Panikkar, Baiju, Kaviyoor Ponamma and a whole lot of other artistes.
Vipin Mohan has done a fair job as the director. The experience which he has gained from having worked with top directors has rubbed off on the movie. Pattanathil Sundaran is a family-oriented subject too.
