Love at first sting

The compilation gives you an unprecedented high

ALL LOVERS of rock will swear by the Scorpions. One of Europe's most successful hard rock bands of all time, the Scorpions are Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, two of whom have been part of the band since its inception in Hanover, 35 years ago.

In 1984, they were the first German band to play at New York's Madison Square Garden. The Scorpions toured the globe and played on all continents. With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, things took an unexpected turn.

Throughout the world, Wind of Change (1989), became the anthem to glasnost and perestroika, providing the soundtrack to the opening of the Iron Curtain, the fall of Communism and the end of the Cold War.

The Scorpions recorded a Russian version of the song and gained a distinguished fan, Mikhail Gorbachev, who invited them to perform at the Kremlin. In 1992 and 1994, they received the World Music Awards. They also helped Rwandan refugees when they released their benefit single, White Dove.

Virgin records' Scorpions Ballads is a collection of their soft rock releases drawn from all their albums. The east European twang is very much evident in You and I.

Still Loving You refers to a love lost beyond the wall while When The Smoke Is Going Down has a haunting guitar strum to it. Living For Tomorrow and the Wind of Change also feature. The collection has 15 songs chosen from their eighteen best selling albums.

The compilation is priced at Rs. 135 and is a must for those wishing to make their rock collection complete.
