B.L. Surya Teja, a Std. X pupil of Olivet School bagged the first prize in Carnatic vocal and Annamacharya Keertana at the State-level music competition conducted by Kalasagaram in Secunderabad recently. She has been selected to attend a workshop in Goa on Carnatic music being conducted by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi.
Padma Priya Sahu, a Std. VIII pupil won two gold and two silver medals for roller skating at the district and State meet selections held recently. Her sister, Shantipriya Sahu, won four gold medals and the `individual championship' for the same events. Both the sisters will participate in the All India Federation Games to be held in January in Ludhiana. They have also been selected to participate in the All India School Games to be held at Kakinada from December 21 to 23.
M. Tulasi Chaitanya of Std. X secured a bronze medal for the 50 metre free style swimming at the 49th National School Games Championship held at Surat from December 11 to 16. At the South Zone State Meet Swimming Championship, Olivet students, P. Anusha (Std. VII) won a gold and two silver medals while in the free style D.L. Harika (Std. IX) secured a silver and bronze medal for the butterfly stroke, says the school principal, Sunitha Nair.

A kids-carnival was organised by the Siva Sivani School, Marripalem, for the students of the pre-primary section, recently.
The fairy tale characters enacted by the nursery students won the appreciation of the gathering. The Japanese dance and the English drama `Hansel and Gretel' were the highlights of the programme.
The programme concluded with a dance by the UKG students to the tune of Jingle bells.

The students of Jassver English Medium School raised funds by contributing from their pocket money and bought some plastic chairs to be donated to `Lebenshilfe', a special school for mentally challenged at MVP Colony.
The chairs were handed over to the Lebenshilfe director, T. Saraswathi Devi, says the school principal, Leonara Mohan. Jassver students entertained the special children with dances and gave the message of peace and goodwill by singing Christmas carols. Santa Claus distributed the sweets.

The students of Pollocks School decorated a 30-foot high X' mas tree and sang Christmas carols as part of a pre-Christmas programme celebrated at the school. A crib was also made and the children enacted various roles of the birth of Jesus Christ. Santa Claus danced to the tune of Jingle bells and gave away chocolates and gifts, to the delight of the kids.

K.G.S. Apuroop, a Std. II pupil of Siva Sivani School, Ukkunagaram, has bagged the National Child Award for exceptional achievement - 2002 in the field of knowledge, memory power and recitation of slokas. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000, a silver medal and a citation.
Apurop (6) has an amazing memory power. He can tell the names of countries and their capitals, famous books and their authors, inventions and discoveries. He can recite slokas from the Ganapathi Sthothram, the Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures. He has several awards to his credit.

Three students of D.A.V. Centenary Public School, Ukkunagaram, Sanchayeeta Choudhary (Std. IX), E. Sasidhar (Std. VI) and M.Asha (Std. IX), bagged gold medals at the national level art competition organised by the Bhadrachalam Fine Art Academy recently.
Six other students - Ch. Chandrasekhar (std. VII), Ch.S.S.S. Pavan Kumar (Std. VI), E. Bhavani Shankar (X), Ch. Urmila (III), M. Sudeep Kumar (II) and R. Rohan Kumar a pupil of Std. I , have been awarded Bala kala ratna awards. The students were coached by the art teacher, V.S.N. Benarji.

A cultural kaleidoscope marked the annual day function of the Delhi Public School held at the Ukkunagaram Club last week. The dances from Assam and Orissa and the beautiful ballet `Sita' by Toru Dutt caught the attention of the gathering. The `kunda natyam' of AP was an exercise in rhythm, grace and synchronization.
In all, over 300 students participated in the programme. The Chairman and Managing Director of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, B.K. Panda, participated as chief guest. The Director(commercial), S. Sagar Rao, gave away the prizes to the winners of various events.
The shield for the all-rounder among boys was bagged by K. Deepak, while the all-rounder among girls was bagged by Neelima Mishra.

S. Bhanu Satish of DAV Centenary Public School, Ukkunagaram, bagged a gold medal in high jump at the All India CBSE Nationals held in Mehsana in Gujarat recently. He was felicitated by the school principal, N. Sobhanadri, and the Deputy General Manager (personnel) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, G.B.S. Prasad.
